Asian hair has its benefits and drawbacks. The hair is usually stronger with more shine than other types of hair. However, Asian hair can sometimes be hard to cut and style because the texture shows minor mistakes in the cut. One of the more popular modern styles for Asian hair is hair with fringe.

Square fringe

If you want square fringe, one of the more modern and interesting styles is to do a two layered haircut that combines a textured bob that extends to the shoulders, with longer, wavy pieces underneath. The fringe are square across the forehead, extending to an inch under the highest part of the eyebrow arch. Darker colours in the hair, especially around the fringe, will add a striking feature; if darker colours are used for the fringe, then deep reds and browns should be used near the ends of the longer part of the hair.

Textured fringe

Another popular style of fringe is to texture the fringe and layer them so that they frame the face. Very choppy hair compliments this look, with lots of layers and texturising. Ask your stylist to go in the hair with a razor, take out a lot of weight, and also add fun movement to the hair. Great colours with this style of cut are almond and chestnut or any other colour in the auburn family.

Because of the sleekness of Asian hair, Asian hair is often well suited for updos. If you have fringe, the updo should compliment the fringe. Textured fringe should be complimented with looser, more playful updos, while straight, square fringe should be complimented with tighter ponytails and sleeker updos. Bows, headbands or hair clips near the fringe will emphasise the fringe and draw attention to the eyes.
