Haircuts for Men With a Receding Hairline

A receding hairline can be embarrassing for some men who previously had a lush head of hair. However, you can camouflage your receding hairline by cutting it in a way that takes the focus off of the line of the hair so that you look like you have more hair in general. Ask your hairstylist for a receding hairline haircut to get some of that confidence back.

Shaggy Bangs

A good way to camouflage a receding hairline is to do so with a shaggy haircut with shaggy fringe that conceal the actual hairline. Consider some famous actors, like Owen Wilson and Charlie Sheen. Both have receding hairlines that you don't notice due to their shaggy haircuts that take the emphasis off of the hairline. Go to your barber with a picture of one of these actors and ask that he cut the hair short, but leave the front of the hair slightly longer. This way, you can style it in front of your hairline to detract from it.

If you notice a bit of a receding hairline, consider choosing a haircut that allows for more volume up top. Ask your barber for a cut that is shorter on the sides, with the top staying slightly longer. Then, when you go to style your hair after a shower, infuse your hair with a little mousse, and then use a hair dryer to dry the hair as you comb it up and out. This look will fool the eye into seeing more hair than is actually there, making it look like you still have a full head of hair. It might take some practice to learn how to wield a hair dryer; just ask your significant other to give you a quick lesson.

Buzz Cut

If your receding hairline doesn't bother you as much as how it makes the rest of your hair look, consider a buzz cut. A buzz cut, where the entire head is shaved short, can help your receding hairline be camouflaged along with other short hair, so there isn't a glaring difference between the length of the receding hair and the rest of your head. Also, it can actually make you look younger with shorter hair reminiscent of haircuts you may have gotten as a teenager and young adult. Ask your barber for an all over buzz at around a 1 inch length.

Shaved Head

If your receding hairline truly bothers you, it might be time to shave your head completely. When you shave your head, you use a razor to get a completely bald look. This can be helpful in making sure that all of your hair is the same. In fact, with a completely bald head, no one will even notice that your hairline was receding or that you were losing hair in the front area at all. It may seem like a big change at first, but you'll probably find that once you've shaved your head bald that it is comfortable, easy to maintain and a good camouflage for hair loss due to a receding hairline.
