Mulled beverages are made using wine or apple cider and infusing with spices. The warm drink is popular during winter months in Europe. Share the warmth with your friends and family during the cold months. Package mulling spices or prepare a batch of the cider or wine and bottle it yourself. Include the recipe or instructions with the gift, so friends and family can fully enjoy the beverage.

Mulled Wine Gift Basket

Fill a gift basket with all the ingredients needed for a batch of mulled wine. A traditional recipe includes two bottles of dry red wine, a bottle of brandy or port and fresh spices. The spices include cinnamon, cloves, a sliced orange and sugar or honey to sweeten. You can add ginger or nutmeg if you prefer. Arrange the ingredients in a basket along with the directions for making the wine. Add a few extra cinnamon sticks for garnish.

Mulled Cider Gift Basket

For anyone in your life who prefers a non-alcoholic mulled beverage, prepare a mulled cider gift basket. You need at least 2 qt. apple cider and spices such as brown sugar, allspice and cinnamon sticks. For a housewarming gift, add mugs or use a slow cooker instead of a basket. The slow cooker keeps the cider warm during a party. A small strainer also adds a nice touch to keep the spices in the cider and out of the cups.

Bottle Mulled Beverages

If you enjoy making mulled wine or cider yourself, prepare a batch or more to give to friends and family. Follow the recipe as usual, but allow it to cool before using a funnel to fill bottles with the beverage. Reuse the wine, port or cider bottles you used to make the beverage. Just remove the labels beforehand. Tie a ribbon around the bottle's neck to attach a card.

Mulled Spices

Purchase a few tulle circles and ribbon from the craft store. If you cannot find tulle, you can use cellophane gift bags instead. Fill each bag with spices for mulling. Common spices for mulled beverages include cinnamon sticks, orange peel or slices, allspice berries, cloves and cardamom sticks. However, you can adapt the recipe to your own taste or use a favourite recipe to share with friends. Tie the bag closed with the ribbon. Write the recipe on a note card and punch a hole in one corner. Tie the recipe to the bag. Use these as gifts or party favours.
