When planning for your anniversary -- whether your first or your hundredth -- give a gift that conveys how much love you feel for your boyfriend. Homemade gifts add warmth to the giving process. Knowing the care you took in preparing the present will add to his appreciation of the token. Gifts remain an expression of a greater emotion; no matter how large or small, the present can be meaningful and touching to the receiver.

Homemade Goody Basket

Preparing a basket of treats designed for your boyfriend's taste not only shows how much you care but how well you know him. Whether he's a chocolate junkie or enjoys muffins, you can cater the basket to his personal taste with a variety of goodies he will surely like. You can add a few store-bought items as well, such as his favourite chocolate bar or a beverage to wash it all down, but fill most of the basket with items you have made such as cookies, cupcakes, mini pies or chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Scrapbook or Journal

This type of gift is especially good if you happen to spend significant amounts of time away from your boyfriend. It gives him a keepsake to look at even when you are not around. Incorporate bits and pieces of your history together into the book with comments and stories about times past. Add photos or poems or anything you feel expresses your emotions. If you have time before the big day, keep a journal leading up to the event. Write down moments or ideas as they happen, making it something interesting to look back on once the anniversary arrives.

Pillows or Blankets

Pillows and blankets bring to mind comfort and caring. Putting together a fleece blanket or a quilted T-shirt-style comforter is a nice way to express your love. T-shirt quilts are made from old shirts no longer worn or outgrown. By sewing the pieces together, you make a patchwork of memories into a useful yet sentimental blanket. If you do not have enough T-shirts to make an entire quilt, patch the pieces together to make a pillow. Or find a fleece pattern your boyfriend will like and make a fleece blanket.

Plant or Tree

While you will not make the plant by hand, you can decorate a receptacle for it, such as a large pot. Paint it in colours that match the rest of the decor, and place a tree or plant inside it. This type of gift is one you can refer to year after year. As a couple, you keep track of how the plant or tree grows from year to year. As it outgrows one pot, you can make another pot as the next anniversary gift. The decorations will evolve the same way your relationship grows over time.
