Show off your fashionable hair skills by creating a top poof without teasing your hair. The poof is a fluff of hair, typically found at or around the bang and crown area of your head. Instead of using a comb to back tease to create the poof, simply use a root enhancing product and clips to fashion the poof into perfection. Wear the poof alone or with braids or a ponytail. The style is sleek and sophisticated, which makes the poof an ideal hairstyle for both day and night.

Instructions

  1. 1

Brush hair through to remove any tangles. Gather the fringe in one hand and pull upward. Use your fingers to comb through the fringe to make sure you have the entire bang area.

  2. 2

Apply a root lift serum to the backside of your fringe and work into the scalp with your fingertips. Another option to the root lift is a "back tease in a bottle," this spray is applied just like a root lifter but it is more sticky than a root lifter. It will stand the hair up, similar to teasing, but without the harsh friction of the comb.

  3. 3

Use a hairdryer, set to low speed on medium heat, to blast the root area. The dryer will help dry the root lifter and add additional volume to the hair.

  4. 4

Pull the hair back gently so you do not squish the poof and secure with hair clips, or a hair clip. Push the poof upward, toward your forehead to increase the height. To add additional height, insert the tail end of a rattail comb and gently lift the hair.

  5. 5

Spray the poof with light-hold hairspray to secure the height.

Tips and warnings

  • Dry wet fringe by lifting them upwards to create a natural lift, before you spray the roots with a product.
  • The root lifter spray should look natural, not crunchy.
