Wavy hair is popular, especially during the hot summer months. Spending a day at the beach and letting the salt water create perfect beach waves isn't always possible. When you're stuck in a 9 to 5 work schedule, you may want to find a more convenient way of creating gorgeous waves in your hair. Luckily, with a few tips, you can style your hair so that it will form waves overnight. Make getting ready in the morning a cinch with these wavy hair tricks.

Wash and condition your hair. The healthier your hair is, the better your waves will look. Keep it moisturised and have it trimmed regularly to avoid split ends and frizz.
Spray your hair with sea salt spray when it's still wet. If your hair is wavy after shampooing, sea salt spray will help it keep the waves, just as a day in the ocean water would. Create your own spray by mixing sea salt with water in a spray bottle. Use 1 tsp of salt for every 8 fluid oz. of water. Spritz the mixture onto your hair and comb it through your hair.
Split your hair into four equal sections and braid each section. Tie a hair elastic around the end of the braids so that they will stay put overnight.
Take the braids out when you wake up. If your hair still isn't completely dry, it's best to wait until it naturally dries before removing the braids. However, if you need to style your hair sooner rather than later, blast your hair with a blow-dryer set on low and with a diffuser attached before removing the braids. Use heat styling as minimally as possible, since it zaps hair of moisture and encourages frizz.
Smooth mousse designed for curly hair over your strands. For extra hold, run gel through your waves. For frizzy hair, smooth on an anti-frizz product.
Style the waves with your fingers, not a comb or brush. For lift at the roots, flip your head upside down and massage your scalp.
Tips and warnings
- Just about any hair type can become wavy --- straight, fine hair will get a boost of volume and curly hair will calm down and become less frizzy.
- An alternative to braiding your hair for overnight waves is to create two buns with equal sections of hair. However, this may not be comfortable to sleep on.
