How to use setting lotion

Updated February 21, 2017

Setting lotion is like a strong-holding gel which can be used to sustain hair shapes and particularly strong curls. Most major beauty brands include setting lotions in their product line. However, it is important to be able to apply it properly to avoid beauty disasters.

Wash your hair thoroughly and then blow dry your hair so it is dry before applying setting lotion.

Place a dollop of setting lotion onto the palm of your hand, about the size of a dime, and rub your hands together to thin the product out.

Knead the setting lotion through your hair, using your fingers to ensure the lotion gets to all the strands of your hair. As you are kneading your hair, shape it into your desired style. It will set within minutes.

Combine the lotion with mousse and hairspray when it has finished setting to ensure maximum hold and body for the hairstyle you want to achieve.
