How to put on pre-bonded extensions step-by-step
You can add length and fullness to your hair with pre-bonded hair extensions, also known as pre-tipped and pre-glued hair extensions, and you do not have to visit a salon to apply them.
The glue is already in place and fuses to your hair with the use of an extension fusion iron; which is a fusing tool that looks similar to a miniature flat iron. The extensions are removable with the aid of an adhesive remover, such as acetone. You can reuse these extensions by cutting the old glue tip off, and applying new glue tips with a glue gun and adhesive sticks.
Prepare the hair
- Lay the pre-bonded extensions out, so they do not tangle together and place the hair clips and tail comb within reach.
- Make the sectioned hair about 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide.
Wash and dry your hair. Do not apply conditioner.
Lay the pre-bonded extensions out, so they do not tangle together and place the hair clips and tail comb within reach. Pre-heat the extension fusion iron.
Separate a section of hair from the top of the head. Use the pointy, end of the tail comb to section off the hair in a horseshoe shape, encompassing all the hair in the fringe and crown area. Twist the hair and clip it together and out of the way.
Section the hair framing the face between the ears and top section. Make the sectioned hair about 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide. Twist and clip the hair together, out of the way.
Section the hair over the ears and at the very bottom of the head, at the nape of the neck. Make the sectioned hair about 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide. Twist into sections and clip the hair out of the way.
Section the remaining hair into five or six 1.2 cm (1/2 inch) rows. These are the sections of hair you will apply the pre-bonded extensions to.
Apply the pre-bonded hair extensions
- Let down the clipped section of hair closest to the bottom of the head, over the sectioned area at the nape of the neck.
- Place it underneath the hair you have separated, about 1 cm (7/16 inch) below the scalp.

Grab a strand of hair from the left side of the row of hair. Make it as wide as the extension hair. Place it in the hair separator shield and clip the shield to the rest of the hair, to hold it in place.
Pick up a pre-bonded extension. Place it underneath the hair you have separated, about 1 cm (7/16 inch) below the scalp. Put the groove of the extension bond into the groove of the extension fusion iron. Close the iron and hold for three seconds to melt the glue into your hair strands.
Put the finger guards on. Use your guarded fingers to roll the fused part into the hair, closing it tightly. Remove the clip and hair separator shield.
Continue to add extensions to the row of hair. Place the extensions 1.2 cm to 2.5 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) apart from one another. Once complete, let down the next row of hair and continue adding the extensions to the hair in this manner, until each row is complete.
