How to Make a Bun Using a Hair Donut

Updated April 17, 2017

Styling your hair into a bun can be irritating and time-consuming. If you are strapped for time when you fix your hair but desire an elegant style, investing in a hair doughnut can be a good idea. The hair doughnut is an accessory that makes creating buns a simple task.

Choose the correct hair doughnut. The accessory is available in three different colours--blonde, brown, and black--so make sure you pick the one that best matches your hair colour. In addition, consider the amount of hair you have when selecting a doughnut; you can purchase several different sizes. If you buy a doughnut that is too big, you may not have enough hair to cover the accessory.

Brush your hair to remove all tangles. Spray any loose strands of hair with hairspray or secure them with gel. Brush your hair back to the desired position on your head. Secure your hair with a ponytail holder or rubber band.

Open the hair doughnut. Wrap the doughnut around the top of your ponytail and clasp it. When you look in the mirror, the doughnut should resemble a giant ponytail holder. Take a section of hair and pull it over the top of the hair doughnut until that part of the accessory is covered. Use a hairpin to secure the section of hair to the other side of the doughnut, close to your head. Repeat the step until you've covered the entire doughnut with your hair.

Wrap remaining strands of hair around the base of the bun. Neatly insert hairpins to hold the hair in place. Spray your hair doughnut bun with hairspray for extra hold.
