There are certain situations that require a woman to wear her hair in a bun. If she's a ballerina or a chef, she might have to wear a bun for work. Sometimes a bun is simply needed for a Halloween costume. Whatever the reason, forming a bun can be difficult for women with short hair. However, if you use the right tools and are meticulous in the process, you can make a bun even if you have short hair.

Wet your hair in the shower or sink. While your hair is still wet, comb it back using a fine-toothed comb.
Squeeze a quarter-sized dollop of hair gel on your hand. Rub your hands together to distribute the gel and slick back your hair with it.
Using a slip resistant rubber band, secure all of the hair at the nape of your neck into a tight ponytail. Gather as much hair into the ponytail as possible.
Use hair clips to secure the hair that is too short to make it into the ponytail. Start at the front of your scalp and slide the hair clip back until it is securely fastened into your hair.
Curl the hair inside the ponytail under or over the rubber band and secure it into a bun shape with hair clips.
Use hairspray to keep all of the hairs in place.
