How to Make a Grandfather Clock Costume

Updated November 21, 2016

If you dress up as a grandfather clock for the next costume party or Halloween party you attend, you likely will not have to worry about someone else having the same costume. This outfit idea is a good option for someone who likes making her own costume or wants to dress up as the grandfather clock character from "Beauty and the Beast."

Choose a long, narrow box that you can fit inside to use as the base of your grandfather clock costume.

Cut the flaps off the bottom of the box. This is the end of the box where your feet will be. Hold the box against you and figure out where your arms will be. Cut a hole in each side of the box so that your arms can stick through.

Cut a large circle in the top front of the box where your face will be. Your face will serve as the face of the grandfather clock.

Paint the box using brown paint.

Paint details onto the box using black and gold paint. For example, paint a black rectangle onto the front of the box to create the look of moulding and a door on the front of the grandfather clock. In gold paint, add a long pendulum and counterweights on each side of it to make the costume look like an old-fashioned grandfather clock. Look at a picture of a grandfather clock to help give yourself a better idea of what your costume should look like.

Paint your face with brown face paint so that it matches the colour of the grandfather clock costume.

Paint a clock face onto your face using black paint. Place the numbers on the outer perimeter of your face and the long and short hands beginning at your nose and extending outward.

Put the box on over your head.
