Hobbyists use paper spikes to create decorative Christmas tree balls, bows, party hats and a variety of paper toys and accessories. You can easily make your own individual paper spikes with decorative paper and common craft supplies. Wrapping paper and other thin papers work better than cardstock or construction paper. They are easier to roll and hold their shape longer.

Instructions

  1. 1

Draw a circle on a sheet of paper, using a compass. If using decorative paper, draw on the non-decorated side.

  2. 2

Fold the circle in half, then in half again. Cut the circle along these folds to make four separate wedges. For thinner spikes, fold the circle in half once or twice more before cutting along each fold.

  3. 3

Take one of the wedges and hold it with the non-decorated side up. Place a sharpened pencil with the sharpened side angled flat against one corner. Choose a corner adjacent to the rounded side of the wedge.

  4. 4

Roll the paper wedge around the angled pencil point to make a spike.

  5. 5

Secure the open end of the spike with a small amount of craft glue. Hold the paper in place until the glue dries.

  6. 6

Trim the base of the spike to make it clean and even.
