How to Use Butterfly Clips

Updated April 17, 2017

Sometimes you just want to keep the hair out of your face for a neat look. Other times, you want an easy but cute up-do. Butterfly clips allow you to create attractive hairstyles easily. These two-sided clips come in a variety of sizes and can be used on long, short, fine or thick hair. For a conservative look, choose clips close to your own hair colour.

Brush your hair back in the same manner you would a ponytail. Hold your hair in a large behind your head in the centre.

Grab your hair into one section tightly. If you are creating a half-up look, grab the top half of your hair into a section.

Twist your hair into one direction by turning your hand until your palm is face up. Continue to twist your hair until it is tight.

Place your hair up close to your head so that your ends are facing upwards. You may also create a bun with the twist by wrapping the ends around the clump of hair so that the ends are tucked behind the bun.

Open the butterfly clip and close it over the twist and the hair in the middle of your head to secure.
