How to Use the SD Card Reader on Toshiba Laptop

Updated July 20, 2017

The SD card reader on your Toshiba laptop -- assuming said laptop is equipped with an SD card reader -- is a device much like the USB ports on your laptop, the difference being that USB ports are designed to connect USB devices, and the SD card reader is designed to connect SD cards. SD cards are the small plastic chits often used by digital cameras to store pictures and other media. These cards can be plugged into your SD reader and accessed as a portable drive through "My Computer." Before you can do this, however, you have to make sure you have the correct drivers installed.

Open up your preferred Internet browser, and navigate to the Toshiba driver page (see link in Resources).

Scroll through the list of Toshiba drivers until you locate the SD card driver for your specific laptop, then click on that link.

Click the "download" button located on the left side of the page, then click one of the download mirrors to begin your download.

Launch the driver file once it has finished downloading. Follow the automated instructions to begin the install process. You may need to restart your computer to complete the installation.

Insert your SD card into the SD card reader, then open "My Computer." Your SD card will appear as an accessible drive under the "Devices with Removable Storage" section.
