Birthday Ideas for 8-Year-Old Boys

Updated November 21, 2016

Create a birthday that your eight-year-old son will always remember by featuring his favourite cartoon characters or a specific theme. Pirate themes work well for many curious eight-year-old boys, but you can also focus on a dinosaur or other animal theme, depending on his interests. Buy him gifts that match the theme of the party or look for out-of-the-ordinary items that you know he wants.

Eight Small Birthday Cakes

Celebrate your son's eighth birthday with eight different small cakes. Buy a variety of flavours such as chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and carrot. Label each cake from one to eight and include items on the cakes to represent each year of your son's life. Some examples include baby blocks for his first cake, dinosaur figures for his fourth cake and a soccer ball for his seventh cake. Think about what your son's interests were during each year. The cake display represents how much he has grown and changed over the years. Remember to take pictures of the cake display for his scrapbook.

Pirate Theme

Give your son a pirate-themed party for his eighth birthday. Help the kids go hunting for backyard treasure before watching them sword fight with plastic pirate swords. Encourage your son and the other kids to come dressed in full pirate attire for the party. You can order an inflatable pirate ship bounce house from your local bounce house retailer or party store. The kids will enjoy climbing and jumping on a large inflatable pirate ship. Make custom treasure map place settings and put pirate-themed cups and napkins on top of the setting. Making place settings is simple. Buy large white card stock paper and crinkle it up so it looks worn. Next, stain several sheets of paper with coffee and allow them to dry. Draw an old-fashioned treasure map on each piece of paper after it dries.

Eight Super Heros

Throw your eight-year-old son a party that features eight of his favourite superheroes such Batman, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Superman and the Incredible Hulk. Order a cake with eight of the superheroes on it and then place small plastic superhero figurines in a row on the cake. Decorate with balloons that match all the superhero outfits. Buy a mixture of themed superhero cups, plates and napkins so that more than one hero is featured. Ask the kids coming to the party to dress up as one of the eight featured heroes and allow your son to dress up in his favourite superhero costume.
