A 60th birthday is important and deserves to be celebrated accordingly. Over the years, your mom has probably accumulated her fair share of photo albums and kitchenware. The best way to celebrate the birthday of an elderly woman is to provide them with much needed conveniences for their everyday life. Give your mom a chance to relax with gifts that will help to relieve stress. The simplest ways of celebrating her birthday are also the most appreciated--offer up your time and company as a way of celebrating this event.

Quality Time

Spend some quality time with your mom on her birthday. Enjoy a night out on the town together or plan a relaxing day trip for the two of you. Give her some fresh air and catch up with coffee in a park or at a local bistro. You can even throw on some old home movies and spend the day watching them together. Regardless of what you do, your Mom will appreciate the time you've set aside from her and relish the companionship.

Gift of Comfort

You may get your mom a gift intended to pamper her. Consider a comfy neck pillow or a back massager that fits along the full-length of her favourite chair. Foot baths and bath baskets also make great gifts for pampering.

Provide your mom with something useful that she will get daily use out of on her birthday. Give the gift of a much needed convenience--consider a single-serving coffee machine, a jar opener, a universal remote or dimmers for her light switches. If her age has had an effect on her eyesight, consider gifts like a remote or telephone with extra large buttons.

Extra Hands

A set of extra hands are always appreciated. Consider a gift that will relieve some of your mom's daily stress. The gift of a housekeeper can be really helpful. Encourage her to communicate with the help so that she is comfortable with the change--she can ask them to handle the dishes and mopping while she maintains washing clothes and dusting. When interviewing potential help, try to find someone who won't make her feel like a guest in her own home.

Books On Tape

Books on tape make great gifts because they allow the user the advantage of enjoying the story of a book without the strain on their eyes. Allow your mom to put her reading glasses down and put her feet up by finding some titles by her favourite author on disc.
