Homemade goodies such as brownies, candies and cookies wrapped in festive baskets can be given as gifts for any holiday or celebration. Coloured cellophane, pretty ribbons and personalised gift tags add a special touch to your gift and let the recipient know you put love and effort into creating her gift basket.

Cellophane is an easy and polished way to wrap a gift basket containing your homemade goodies. Cellophane comes in many colours --- some that are transparent and showcase the items in the basket, and others that are matt and keep gifts a surprise. Use metallic cellophane for a glitzy presentation of your gift. To wrap your basket in cellophane, cut a piece of cellophane large enough to cover your whole basket, with about 10 extra inches on each side. Place the basket in the centre of the piece of cellophane and pull all sides of the cellophane up around the basket, securing it all together at the top with a ribbon. Fan out the extra cellophane at the top.

Fabric can be used to wrap your gift basket in the same way you would use cellophane. The benefit of using fabric to wrap your basket is the variety of colours and prints that you can find when choosing a fabric. Light chiffon, tulle and organza are fabrics that are easy to work with and look nice when wrapped around a gift basket. Adorn the top of your fabric-wrapped gift basket with a bow, raffia or a bunch of fabric flowers. Colour coordinate the bow and the fabric for a polished look.

Gift Bags

Gift bags are easy to use and can be found in many sizes. If you package your homemade goodies in a basket that fits nicely in gift bag, you may decide to use this option. Square and rectangular baskets work best for gift bags; however, some gift bags, such as those made of fabric or plastic, can easily be used with any shape basket. Before putting the basket in the gift bag, make sure your goodies are wrapped in cling film or in a sealed container so they stay fresh. Add a homemade gift tag to the bag for a personal touch.

Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap is a great way to wrap a gift basket. It keeps the food inside fresh and secures the contents from shifting. Shrink wrap kits can be purchased at craft stores and include bags or shells and a heat gun. Place your basket in the shrink wrap bag or shell, and use the heat gun to form the wrap to your gift. Shrink wrap is also available on a roll and can be cut to the size of your basket. Blow dryers can be used to shrink the film. Be careful using heat if you have food items that can melt, such as fudge or candies. After your gift basket is shrink wrapped, use tape to adhere a bow, gift tag or small bauble to your gift.
