Bat Girl is a sidekick of the popular superhero, Batman. There were five incarnations of Bat Girl throughout the comic book series, including Betty Kane, Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli, Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. Superhero costumes are always popular for Halloween, and Bat Girl provides the perfect costume option for females. There's no need to spend your money on an expensive Bat Girl costume when you can create your own costume at home for little money. All it takes is a few clothing items from your closet and some supplies from your local craft store to make a Bat Girl costume that is realistic and fun.

  1. 1

Draw the Batman logo on yellow foam paper. The logo should be big enough to fit across two-thirds of your chest.

  2. 2

Cut the logo out of the yellow foam paper and glue it on the centre of the chest of the black leotard.

  3. 3

Cut out square panels of equal size from the black and yellow vinyl fabric to make a cape. The cape should be wide enough to cover the back and shoulders and long enough to fall to mid-thigh.

  4. 4

Glue or sew the black and yellow vinyl fabric together and trim the edges so they meet perfectly. After the glue dries, cut a scalloped trim with pointed tips along the bottom of the cape to resemble the edge of bat wings.

  5. 5

Glue or sew the top edge of the cape across the back of the leotard from shoulder to shoulder with the yellow side facing in. If you prefer, you can add strings to each side of the cape and tie it on.

  6. 6

Draw a Batman logo on black foam paper; the logo should be wide enough to fit across the face as a mask. Cut the logo out of the paper and poke a small hole on each side with the scissors.

  7. 7

Thread the elastic string through each hole and tie a knot to finish the mask. Adjust the string length as necessary to create a snug fit.

  8. 8

Put on the black leotard and a skirt or black leggings on the bottom. Wear black knee-high boots.

  9. 9

Wear a yellow belt around your waist for Bat Girl's utility belt. If you can't find a yellow belt, cover any belt with yellow duct tape that can be found at any craft store.

  10. 10

Put the mask over your face to complete the Bat Girl costume.

Tips and warnings

  • You can cut out shapes from yellow foam paper and glue it to the belt to create the appearance of tools.
  • You can use a black T-shirt in a smaller size instead of a black leotard.
  • This costume works well for children and adults; just adjust the measurements to fit.
