How to Reset a VW Beetle Airbag Module

Updated July 20, 2017

The Volkswagen Beetle's numerous safety features include ABS brakes, traction control, and front and side air bags. When the airbags have diagnosed a problem, the airbag module lights up. The light can be reset with a VAG service and airbag reset tool, which can be purchased at most auto parts stores.

Shut off the engine. Place the VAG service and airbag reset tool into the Beetle's diagnostic port, by the bonnet release latch.

Press the reset tool's "Select" button until the red and yellow lights light up.

Turn on the ignition but do not start the car.

Press the tool's "Enter" button for 10 seconds until its lights come on. Turn off the ignition.
