Menu cards are often set on guest tables during a wedding reception to announce the menu for either a served or buffet-style dinner. The use of the cards saves valuable reception time since service staff doesn't need to recite menu options for each guest and allows attendees to make their entrée choice at the table instead of possibly holding up the food line. The menu cards can complement the wedding colours, theme and invitations to create a uniform look to the wedding.
Write a rough draft of the menu card set-up on a piece of paper. Write each course option in detail, using descriptive words opposed to listing the choices.
Open a blank word-processing document on your computer. Modify the paper margins to display the size of purchased card stock. Choose a romantic, scrolling or calligraphy font for the menu card.
Type the word "menu" at the top of the card in a 12-point font. Press the "Enter" key six times for spacing (adjust as necessary for fit and aesthetics) and type the wedding date in a 12-point font.
Type headings for each menu course to include appetizers, entrées and desserts in a 14-point font. Describe the food choices under the appropriate headings in a 12-point font. If the typing exceeds the size of the card, decrease the font size throughout.
Print a test card on a piece of card stock and review for spelling, grammar, alignment and overall appearance. Modify the document as necessary.
Press a custom stamp of the first letter of the newlyweds' last name into an embossing ink pad. Press the stamp onto the open area of the card and sprinkle embossing powder onto the wet ink. Tap off the excess powder and return to the jar. Move a heat gun in a circular motion across the powder for about 30 seconds to activate it. The monogram should rise and be shiny. Allow to dry completely.
Punch two holes approximately three inches apart on the top of the card. Cut an eight-inch length of ribbon matching the wedding colours and thread through the holes. Tie a decorative bow on the front of the menu card.
Print one card for each person in attendance and repeat the embossing and ribbon decoration steps for each. Place one card on each guest's plate prior to the reception.
Place two menus on each table to avoid printing excess cards while saving money. Prop next to a raised centrepiece or use table number holders to display the menu options. Menu cards commonly measure five by seven or four by eight inches. Wipe an anti-static pad over the card to avoid powder sticking to unwanted areas.
Keep the heat gun moving to avoid overheating one area of the embossing powder.
