The Disney phenomenon "High School Musical" captured the attention of teens and tweens across the country, creating high demand for birthday cakes in the High School Musical theme. However, you don't have to spend the money it takes for a professional High School Musical cake; you can make your own and customise it for a boy or girl.

Instructions

  1. 1

Bake a sheet cake in the size and flavour of your choice. Allow it to cool completely.

  2. 2

Spread white buttercream icing on all the tops and sides of the cake, making it smooth and clean.

  3. 3

Cover the entire cake in white fondant icing. Take care when you place the fondant on the cake so it doesn't rip or crack. Cut it to size, and smooth out the corners so it looks as if it's one piece.

  4. 4

Make curtains using red fondant icing. Place three vertical chopsticks on each side of the cake where you want the curtains to hang. Drape the red fondant over the chopsticks and mould the fondant until it looks like curtains. Remove the chopsticks by sliding them out the top or bottom and seal up the hole. Place chopsticks horizontally at the top of your cake to design the top curtain.

  5. 5

Outline your red curtains with strawberry lace sweets to smooth the transition from curtain to cake.

  6. 6

Cut the letters to make the words "High School Musical" using yellow fondant icing. You can cut the letters out yourself, or if you want them to look exactly like the logo, print the logo off of the Internet and use that as a template.

  7. 7

Decorate your yellow fondant letters with silver decorative balls. Attach the silver balls to the yellow fondant letters using writing icing.

  8. 8

Customise the cake by adding your child's name and/or age. You can make fondant letters to do this, or you can write on the cake with icing.

  9. 9

Print a picture of the High School Musical cast and laminate it. Place the laminated picture on your cake underneath the curtains so it looks like the High School Musical cast is on the stage that is your cake.
