Girl surfer hairstyles need to be carefree and simple to pull off. Most gals aren't too concerned with what looks stylish when catching waves, but want functional hairstyles that will keep hair out of the way while surfing. These hairstyles must be quick and look good, whether you're dressing at home or pulling your hair up while on the beach.

Classic Braids

Classic braids make a great hairstyle for surfer girls. Split hair down the middle from front to back and gather a section at each side of the neck. Starting at the nape of the neck, braid your hair by splitting the section into three equal parts and pulling hair taut, allowing braids to sit close to the neck. Braid until you run out of hair and secure at the bottom with hair elastics in a similar shade to your own hair.

To cut down on the damage from the sun and salt water, apply a small amount of conditioner to your entire head of hair before braiding hair.

Top Knot

The top knot hairstyle is stylish and practical for surfers. Use a brush or hands to gather hair into a high ponytail just above the crown of the head. Secure with a hair elastic. Split the ponytail into two equal sections. Take one section and gently twist it, bringing it around the base of the ponytail and securing it with hair clips. Do the same with the remaining section of hair, but twist it in the opposite direction of the first section. This allows the top knot to have slight fullness. Be sure to secure it well to avoid the waves from making your top knot fall flat.

Low Braided Bun

Gather hair into a low, tight ponytail, securing with a hair elastic. Braid ponytail and secure with another hair elastic. Wind the braided hair around the base of the ponytail and secure with several hair clips. This pulls hair out of the face and ensures that it's tight and won't fall down while catching waves.
