Some features of Facebook may not be available before you activate your account. When you sign up for Facebook, a confirmation e-mail is automatically sent to the email address associated with your account. If you did not receive the confirmation e-mail, you'll need to seek out an alternative for activating your Facebook account.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Sign in to the email account you used to sign up for Facebook. Check the "Spam," "Junk" or "Bulk" folder to see if the Facebook confirmation e-mail was filtered. If so, click on the confirmation link to activate your account.

  2. 2

Sign in to your Facebook account if you could not find the confirmation e-mail. On the top of the page, you'll see "Go to [e-mail address].com to complete the sign-up process." Click on "Resend Email" if you could not find the confirmation email in your account. Check your email inbox and spam folder in about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

Use the Facebook help desk to activate your account, if you still are not receiving the confirmation e-mail. Choose "I did not receive a confirmation e-mail" and enter your name as it appears on your Facebook account. Enter your birthday and click "Submit." Facebook will examine the problem and attempt to confirm your account for you.

Tips and warnings

  • If you have problems accessing the email account you used to sign up, sign in to your Facebook account and click on "Change Email" next to the activation message on the top bar. Facebook will then send a confirmation link to the new e-mail address.
