The Navman S80 GPS receiver uses information gathered from three satellites to determine your location and then provides directions to any destination. The Navman S80 may not always work as it should. Common problems include improper use of the controls, depleted battery, a problem connecting to the satellites and out-of-date firmware. Troubleshoot the Navman S80 to return the device to normal working condition.

Instructions

  1. 1

Press and hold the "Power" button located on the top and left of the Navman S80 if you cannot power on the device. Pressing and releasing the button quickly will not turn on the device.

  2. 2

Charge the battery or connect the Navman S80 to an external power source if the device does not turn on. You can charge the battery with your car, your computer or by connecting an AC adaptor. Plug the small end of the power adaptor to the power jack on the bottom of the device. When using your car, plug the larger end into a 12V power jack. For your computer, plug the larger end of the USB cable into a USB jack on your computer. When using the AC adaptor, plug the larger end of the adaptor into an electrical socket. The battery indicator on the Navman S80 is orange when charging and green when fully charged.

  3. 3

Wait up to 15 minutes the first time you use the Navman S80 if the unit does not connect to the satellites. You don't have to wait that long after the first use.

  4. 4

Attach an external antenna to the Navman S80 if you regularly have trouble receiving satellite transmissions. Plug the wire into the external antenna connector on the left side of the device. Run the antenna along the dash, through the passenger door and attach it to the roof of the car. External antennas are magnetised; you don't need any type of adhesive. The antenna must not obstruct your view while driving.

  5. 5

Update your Navman S80 to the latest firmware if you are having regular problems with the device. Plug the small end of the USB cord to the power jack on the bottom of the device and plugging the other end into a USB jack on your computer. Download the software update to your desktop from the Navman website and unzip the file. Click "Start," "Computer." Open the "S80_SP" folder, double click "GO" and follow the on screen instructions to finish updating your device.
