The W32.Sality.Gen Virus is a malicious virus that attaches itself to key system files that can affect many aspects of a Windows PC causing the system to produce undesirable results. The virus can also spread among other systems connected to a network so it's important to remove the virus as soon as possible after detection. Removing the W32.Sality.Gen Virus is a simple task with antivirus software or special software created to remove this virus specifically.

Instructions

    Run the AVG Threat Remover

    Download the AVG Win32.Sality Threat Remover files to your desktop (see Resources). Download all three files: rmsality.exe, rmsality.nt and rmsality.dos.

    Double-click "rmsality.exe" to run the Threat Remover.

    Highlight the hard drive on which to perform the fix and run the Threat Removal software. Viruses mainly attach to the Windows directory on the C drive. In the case of W32.Sality.Gen, you will want to choose every hard drive connected to the computer.

    Run Anti-Virus Software

    Download a free antivirus program (see Resources.)

    Install the antivirus software to your computer by following the on-screen instructions.

    Click "Start" and select "All Programs." Click the antivirus program you installed. Alternatively, click on the desktop icon for your antivirus program, if the program created a desktop icon on install. Follow instructions to run a full scan on your computer for threats. The software should detect the virus.

    Follow on-screen instructions to remove or quarantine the virus with the antivirus software.
