When presenting slide shows to groups, it is often useful to embed sounds for either narration or background music. Adding narration or background music will spice up your slide show, or it can provide additional commentary so that you don't have to deliver it live. OpenOffice Impress is part of the OpenOffice suite of home and business office tools, which are similar to Microsoft Office. OpenOffice Impress is a slideshow presentation tool, similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. You can import sounds and movies into your slide show.

Click "Start" followed by "All Programs" and "OpenOffice." Click "OpenOffice Impress" to launch the program.
Click "File," then "Open." Locate the slideshow that you want to embed an MP3 into.
Locate the slide that you want to embed the sound file with.
Click "Insert" followed by "Movie and Sound." A file browser will open. Locate the MP3 that you wish to embed. Select it and click "Open." The embedded sound will be represented by a small sound player. Click and drag the sound player around on your slideshow, placing it where you desire. When you playback the slideshow, a button will display to play the MP3 sound.
