Mini pom poms are often used to create seasonal crafts such as snowmen, pumpkins or ghosts. Although it's easy to purchase mini pom poms from a fabric or craft store, it can more rewarding to make them yourself. To create handmade mini pom poms, you need a few basic materials and simple guidelines to ensure your mini pom poms are usable for your crafts.

  • 2 pieces of cardboard, cut in 2-inch squares
  • Scissors
  • Yarn

    Cut out two circles from the cardboard, each measuring two inches across.

    Cut a one-inch hole in the centre of each cardboard circle. Discard the centres of the circles.

    Wind a section of yarn into a one-inch ball.

  4. 4

    Put the cardboard circles together.

  5. 5

    Insert the ball of yarn into the holes of the circles.

  6. 6

    Wrap the yarn around the outside ring of the circle.

  7. 7

    Insert the yarn again into the hole, then wrap it again around the outside ring.

    Repeat this process until the entire outside ring is covered with yarn.

    Insert one side of a pair of scissors in between the two cardboard circles.

    Snip around the circles, carefully cutting the yarn in between the pieces of cardboard.

    Slip a piece of yarn in between the cardboard circles where you cut.

    Tie the yarn together very tightly.

    Cut off the cardboard circles, leaving behind the mini yarn pom.

    Trim any long pieces with scissors.
