How to Set Up a Printer to Print From a Wireless Router

If you have a network at home or at work that is set up with a wireless router, you can add a printer to that network if needed. You do need to have a wireless printer in order to be able to print from the wireless router. Setting up a printer so that you can printer from the wireless router is the same process, regardless of the brand or model of the printer that you want to use.

  • Wireless printer
  • Computer with wireless capability
  • Wireless router (connected to computer)
  • USB Cable

    Close any open programs you may have on your computer before inserting your printer installation CD into the computer. It should run automatically, but if it doesn't just double-click the set-up icon from the CD drive.

    Choose “Install Network/Wireless Device” to get started installing the printer drivers on the computer so that you will be able to print through the wireless router.

    Click “Next” on the screen once it has finished searching for a connected printer.

    Connect the printer to the computer with the USB cable when prompted on the screen. It is just temporary so that the router will be able to recognise the printer in the future.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the printer to your computer.

    Disconnect the USB cable from your computer when prompted, which is when the installation is complete. Once you get to this point your printer will be set up for printing from the wireless router.
