Camping is an enjoyable activity and a less expensive way to vacation with your family. To ensure your camping supplies are in top working order for each trip, they must be cleaned and maintained regularly. In the same way you would wash bird droppings off a household surface, they must also be cleaned off a tent. Organic matter, such as bird poop, can build up on the surface of your tent and attract other stains as a result. Simple upkeep maintains your tent's condition, providing you with years of use.

Reach high areas of the tent with a long-handled broom.

Sweep bird poop droppings off the outside of the tent with a broom to remove bird poop substance.

Combine 1/2 cup bleach with 1 gallon hot water in a bucket to make a solution that will remove stains left by the bird droppings and disinfect the area from germs.

Place rubber gloves on your hands to protect the skin from the drying effects of the bleach solution.

Bleach removes stains and kills germs.

Dip the scrub brush in the diluted bleach solution, then allow the excess moisture to drip back into the bucket. Scrub the surface of the tent to remove stains left by the bird droppings.

Rinse the tent surface with a hose to wash any remaining stain residue and remove the bleach solution. Let the tent material air dry completely before taking down the tent.

TIP

Detergent-based cleaners should not be used to clean tents as they can remove water repellent and other protective sprays. Allow the bird droppings to dry for easier removal. Always clean and dry your tent before breaking down camp.
