How to Retrieve Deleted SMS Messages

Updated February 21, 2017

We've all accidentally deleted a text message before that we wanted to keep. Usually these messages (also known as SMS messages) are just junk clogging up the memory of our phones, but from time to time the deleted message is something that's important that we actually need. If this is the case, don't worry because with the right tools it's easy enough to retrieve a deleted SMS message.

Get a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card recovery tool. A number of online companies sell these, such as Dekart.com and RecoverSMS.co.uk. As of 2010, a recovery tool costs about £42, which includes a card reader and software.

Install the software by placing the CD-ROM in your computer's drive and following the instructions that appear on the screen.

Remove the SIM card from your phone and slide it into the USB SIM card reading device.

Plug the device into the USB port on your computer.

Open up the software application. You will see a list of text messages, including the deleted ones, which are denoted in red. Simply right-click on these and click on "Undelete."
