According to Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps website, Dr. Bronner's soaps have been on the market for decades, enjoying a huge boom in sales during the 1960s and remaining popular today. This popularity is for good reason, since the soaps have several unique qualities that make them popular among both eco-conscious and vegan consumers. Dr. Bronner's castile soaps are made from vegetable oil rather than animal fat, they are organic, and the highly concentrated nature of these soaps leads to longer-term usage and fewer disposed bottles in the long run. Unfortunately, Dr. Bronner does not offer a shampoo; the good news is that the castile soaps can be diluted for use as hair shampoo or body wash in just a few steps.

Instructions

  1. 1

Get your body wet in the shower or bath ahead of time.

  2. 2

Apply 4 to 5 drops of full-strength liquid soap to the palms of your hands.

  3. 3

Rub your hands together to create a thick lather.

  4. 4

Scrub the lather onto your body using a washcloth or loofah. The lather will combine with the water on your already-wet body for proper dilution. Dr. Bronner's Castile soap is designed for body wash usage without any advanced dilution ahead of time. As long as you are moderately wet from the shower, the soap will work well as a body wash.

  1. 1

Mix 2 to 3 drops of Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile soap with 1 cup of water. Do not shake, as this will create a lot of unnecessary foam. Simply stir gently and then wait about 1 minute for the soap to mix into the water. Dr. Bronner's soaps can be used directly on your hair without prior dilution, but mixing into some water will make it easier to spread the soap across your entire scalp before it gets too foamy.

  2. 2

Pour small amounts of the diluted soap solution over your head gradually. Rub the solution into your hair with your fingers.

  3. 3

Apply 2 to 3 more drops directly to your head to intensify the lather and rub this additional soap into your hair.

  4. 4

Rinse the soapy shampoo from your head with water.

  5. 5

Mix 1 to 2 capfuls of Dr. Bronner's Organic Shikakai Conditioning Rinse (see Resources) into 1 cup of water. Stir until the water and conditioner have blended. This is recommended by Dr. Bronner's website whenever you use castile soaps as a shampoo.

  6. 6

Close your eyes and slowly pour the conditioner over your hair, massaging into your hair for about 30 seconds or until your hair feels sleek and smooth.

  7. 7

Rinse remaining conditioner from your hair.
