Kawasaki 550 LTD Specs

The Kawasaki 550 LTD motorcycle was produced from 1979 to 1985. Other designated model numbers were KZ500, Z550 and ZX550. In South Africa, it was known as the Kawasaki 550 Zephyr.


Displacement is pegged at 553.00 cubic cm (33.74 cubic inches) for the in-line four, four-stroke, air-cooled engine. Compression is 9.5 to 1, accompanied by a bore and stroke of 58.0 x 52.4mm (2.3 x 2.1 inches). Two valves per cylinder, dual overhead camshafts and an air cooling method round out the entire system. Idle speed for this Kawasaki is set at the factory to range from 1,150 to 1,250rpm. It has a six-speed gearbox transmission that employs a chain final drive. All of these components enable the Kawasaki 550 to put out approximately 50 horsepower (36.50kW) at 8,500rpm. Top speed for this model is 178.0km/h (110.6mph).
