Halloween is a perfect time for spookiness and scary things, so a scary costume fits right into the festivities. A scary costume can be as elaborate as building a host of props to go along with the costume, but many of the scariest costumes require relatively simple components. Putting together an easy scary Halloween costume depends upon a few accessories and your imagination.

Movie monsters make rather simple costumes usually, and Freddy Krueger often rates as one of the scariest monsters of them all. A Freddy Krueger costume consists of a red and green horizontally striped sweater, dark trousers and a brown hat. Freddy's clothing is dirty and tattered, so making them look well-worn would be best. In addition, and possibly most famously, Freddy has a glove consisting of knives attached to the fingers. These gloves can be purchased at prop shops or costume supply stores usually. Some people may want to create their own glove at home using an old brown leather glove and kitchen knives. Make-up for Freddy consists of creating a burnt look for his skin. Some people choose not to apply the burnt make-up, basing their costume on Freddy before he was burnt to death in a fire. This may be the easier route, although you can buy masks featuring his burnt skin at most places that sell costumes.
Dolls in horror films are rather commonly a source of evil, so dressing yourself up as an evil doll is sure to creep a few people out. Most evil dolls look like antique porcelain dolls, but any kind of doll will do. For an antique porcelain doll, look for a poofy dress to wear. A pair of shiny dress shoes and some tights complete the outfit. For hair, find a long, curly wig to wear, or curl your own hair. Many old dolls have bows in their hair, so that might be a nice touch. The make-up you use for this costume should make you look as pale as possible. This can be accomplished with foundation. The lips and cheeks of dolls have more make-up than other areas, so pile on the lipstick and blush. This alone could scare people, but for added fright, add in some stage blood, as little or as much as you'd like. You may also opt to carry around a fake weapon. Another evil doll option would be to dress up as Chucky from the "Child's Play" film series. Chucky is known for having blue overalls, red shoes, a rainbow striped shirt and wild red hair.
As the evil ghosts of "The Ring" and "Ringu" movie series, Samara and Sadako make incredibly easy spooky Halloween costumes. Both costumes require relatively few components. Most important is a long stringy black wig. As is common in many Asian ghost stories, Sadako sports very long black hair that obscures her face, and her American counterpart Samara has the same. Clothing for Samara or Sadako consists of a simple white dress that looks tattered and dirty thanks to being stuck inside a well. Both are barefoot, but this may not be conducive to a party, so try to find simple flats to wear. Special effects make-up isn't necessary, but you may want to make yourself look more like a ghost with waterlogged skin.
