Personal hygiene refers to the practice of maintaining a clean body. It also ties in with a healthy body since neglect of personal hygiene can create health problems such as gum disease. To maintain a clean body you will need some important and essential items. These are items you should have in your home, as well as in the suitcase you take with you when you leave your house for a stay away from home for any length of time.

Oral Care Items

A clean body includes your mouth and breath, so have personal hygiene items that help keep your teeth clean and breath smelling fresh. Buy toothpaste that contains fluoride and a new toothbrush every 90 days. Purchase mouthwash and rinse your mouth out with it after eating offensive smelling foods. Have dental floss on your checklist and use it daily.

Hair Removal Items

Men as well as women grow hair in places they wish hair never grew. Underarm hair is especially unwanted by women since it looks unsightly and is a breeding ground for bacteria caused from sweating. Some men don't want hair on their face. Put an electric razor or a manual razor on your checklist to keep new hair growth at bay, and shaving cream can help soften facial hair prior to shaving.

Soap and Other Personal Care Items

Soap is a necessity if you want to practice good personal hygiene. Include soap for your face as well as your hands and body, and use moisturiser to keep your skin in good condition. Buy individually packaged moist towelettes or hand sanitiser for times when you cannot wash your hands with soap and water. Deodorant is also a must-have.

Hair Care Items

Clean hair is important, so make sure you have shampoo and conditioner made for your hair type. If your hair is oily, buy shampoo and conditioner for oily hair. Purchase shampoo and conditioner that will add moisture to your locks if your hair looks dry and brittle. If your scalp is dry and flaky, look for dandruff shampoo. Normal hair needs hair products designed for normal hair. Make sure you have a brush and comb on your checklist.

Feminine Hygiene Items

Women who menstruate should have sanitary pads or tampons on their checklist. If you douche, despite the fact douching is not necessary and can make you more vulnerable to vaginal infections, you may want to have douching solution in your bathroom or suitcase. For times in between, have disposable pre-moistened wipes on hand to clean the area surrounding the vagina.

Other Personal Hygiene Items

Manicured nails signify good grooming, which is why you should have nail clippers and a cuticle trimmer on your list of personal hygiene items. If you are a woman, put tweezers on your list as well. Also have cotton swabs on hand. If you want to smell your best, include your favourite cologne or perfume.
