Creative Homemade Gift Ideas for Him
Road maps are a great addition to a travel kit. (map and others image by timur1970 from Fotolia.com)

Whether the special man in your life is your husband, father, brother or best friend, a handmade gift lets him know how much he means to you. Plus, you can tailor the gift to suit his needs and tastes.

Travel Kit

Find a sturdy metal or cardboard box that fits under a car seat and fill it with things that he might need while he is travelling. Fresh batteries, a flashlight, a pocket knife and a compass are all things that can go inside. Include a pen and a small notebook for quick maps or directions and include maps of all the places that he might visit. This is a good gift for a man who is constantly on the road. Decorate the outside of the box with pictures of his family.

Tie Snake

For the whimsical gentleman, create a tie snake that can block drafts or simply be a cute desk decoration. Take a tie and stuff it full of poly-cotton fill. This creates a long stuffed tube that looks a little like a snake with a broad triangular head. Hot glue googly eyes to the snake's head and glue a red forked tongue cut out of felt to the face. Sew the tail closed to make sure that the stuffing does not escape.

Chocolate Bar Gift Basket

Buy a large handful of the recipient's favourite candy bars. Tape each chocolate bar to a short dowel. Place a small piece of floral foam into the bottom of a small basket and stick each chocolate bar stick into the foam. Cover the floral foam with shredded paper to cover up any gaps. To make the effect look a little more professional, wrap the entire thing in cellophane and tie it up with a shiny ribbon.

Poker Chips

If the man in your life is a poker fan, make him his own personalised poker chips. Choose a set of blank poker chips from the store and stamp them using permanent ink and rubber stamps. You may choose to carve your own stamp or you may simply use premade stamps to inscribe his name or initials on the chip.
