A decorative pair of chopsticks may be the crowning touch for a China doll costume. You can purchase a Chinese doll costume to wear at Halloween or you can take clues from Oriental images around you and create your own. An appropriate dress, black hair or a wig and the right props and accessories complete the Chinese doll look.

For your Chinese doll costume, you'll need a Chinese-inspired dress. Search local thrift stores, Halloween shops and online retailers to find a gown or robe from the region. Look for a dress with a classic Chinese side-buttoned Mandarin collar or a silky outfit with Asian designs like flowers, bamboo or dragons. Or create your own Chinese outfit with a red-coloured dress with capped sleeves and a keyhole neckline. The dress length can reach anywhere from above the knee to down to the ankle. The skirt shouldn't have much volume, and instead hang straight down from the hips.

Accessorise your Chinese doll Halloween costume with a pair of high-platform thong sandals or flat ballerina-style shoes. For a sexier look, pair the outfit with knee-high stockings in white or black. Slip on a pair of high-heel shoes that match the colours of the dress. Incorporate some jewellery into the outfit, too, with a choker necklace or dangling silver or gold earrings. Find a pair of decorative chopsticks to stick in your hair.

Props can add detail to your costume. Buy or create a Chinese fan that you can wave in front of your face. Make a fan using a piece of decorative Asian-inspired scrapbooking paper or by drawing designs of your own. Fold the paper back and forth like an accordion, pinch the bottom and open the paper up-top to reveal the half-circle of a fan. A paper umbrella is another accessory you can carry throughout the Halloween festivities to perfect your Chinese doll costume.

Hair and Makeup

Complete your Chinese doll costume by doing your hair and make-up. Most Chinese dolls have black hair, so if you have different coloured locks, buy a black wig or a hairspray that will temporarily darken your hair. Wear your tresses up in a tight bun behind your head, or with two smaller buns on either side of your head. For make-up, use baby powder or a face paint to make your face white like a porcelain doll. Pair this make-up with thick black eyeliner and red lipstick. Finally, use blush to create two pink or red circles on the balls of your cheeks.
