Personalised Picture Frame

This picture frame can be an elegant gift or a child's craft. To make a frame for gift-giving, purchase a metal or ceramic photo frame. Select appropriate religious charms from the beading section of a craft supply store. Also choose alphabet beads in the letters needed to spell the child's name. Use super glue to bond the charms and beads to the frame. For a child's craft, purchase a foam photo frame and allow the child to use religious foam stickers to decorate it.

Scrapbook Shadow Box

Even if you don't have time to create an entire scrapbook, you can create one fabulous page and frame it in a shadow box as a reminder of the child's first communion. Purchase a sheet of 12x12 scrapbook paper that has an appropriate theme for a first communion, such as a cross or grapes background. Select one or more of your favourite photos from the event and use acid-free adhesive to attach it to the page. Add religious themed stickers and tags. Use stamps or stickers to add the child's name and the date of the first communion. Frame the completed page. You may wish to purchase a few extra supplies if the child wants to create a scrapbook page himself.

First Communion Holy Cards

The first communicant can give these holy cards to friends and relatives on the day of the first communion. Create personalised holy cards by downloading a license-free image of a patron saint for the front of the card. Print multiples of the image on card stock. Cut out the cards and set aside. Print the child's name, the date of the first communion, and the words "First Holy Communion" on shipping labels. Print enough so that there is one label for each card. Stick the labels on the back of the photo cards. Laminate to improve durability.

Gold Doily Monstrance

The simplicity and affordability of this craft make it ideal for an entire class of first communicants. Create a monstrance out of a gold doily, gold wrapping paper, construction paper and stick on jewels. Cut the gold wrapping paper into 2 inch-wide strips and give each child one of the strips. Have children glue the strip of wrapping paper lengthwise down the middle of the construction paper. Have them glue the gold doily centred on top the strip of gold paper and near the top of the construction paper page. Have them cut a small circle shaped host out of white construction paper and glue it in the centre of the gold doily. Decorate the monstrance with the stick on jewels.
