Perhaps you have a new puppy who cannot keep up with you on your daily strolls through the park. Maybe your dog is an older pet with health problems that prevent him from manoeuvring well while outdoors or just tires easily. There are just as many reasons to need a dog stroller as there are types of strollers to choose from. Dog strollers have advanced a great deal since the beginning of the 21st century and are no longer identical to human baby strollers.

Travel Strollers

This type of stroller is ideal for taking your dog with you on vacations or day outings. Travel strollers are portable and can be collapsed for storage in the back seat or boot of your vehicle. Most of these strollers have standard wheels, just like a baby stroller, but the seats are designed for dogs. Another standard feature is the zippered screen or mesh enclosure that allows your dog to see outside while keeping him contained. A fancy version of the travel stroller has a detachable doggy car seat for use in the car that doubles as the stroller seat once it is connected to the frame.

All-Terrain Strollers

If you want to take your dog on surfaces other than asphalt and concrete, you might want to invest in an all-terrain stroller that will allow you to take your furry friend across grassy park areas and lawns, dirt or gravel hiking trails, or even sandy beaches. An all-terrain stroller has larger tires and usually is constructed with two tires in the rear and one in the front of the stroller for easier navigation. This type of stroller also has a better suspension system so that your dog is not shaken and bounced on rougher terrains. All-terrain strollers also can have added features such as storage compartments below to carry pet food, water and toys.

Bicycle Strollers

If you are a cyclist whose dog who can't keep up, you might enjoy the dog bicycle stroller. A two- or three-wheeled enclosed stroller can be hooked to your bicycle frame so your dog can join you. These strollers are enclosed with screen to give your pet plenty of air circulation and a great view. Some bike strollers can be converted to use without a bike. Sizes vary, depending on the size of your dog.

Double Strollers

Many dog owners have multiple pets that join them on outings. For them there are double dog strollers. The double stroller allows two dogs to ride either side by side or one on top of the other. This type of stroller is designed for smaller dogs and has four wheels. Travel compartments are often mailbox-shaped and covered with screen or mesh. A more expensive model is similar to a double pram and has front and top entrance zippers for easy access to your pets.
