The ZyXEL company produces several products that you can use to build your network in your home or office. One such is the HomePlug AV Powerline Ethernet Adapter, which allows you to extend your network throughout your home or building by using the power lines in your walls. If your HomePlug AV is not operating properly after you have installed it, try to get it back online by following a few troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

  1. 1

Check the power cable to the back of the unit if none of the lights come on when it is plugged in. The cable should be firmly connected to the port on the back of the unit and to an open and working AC outlet. If you are unsure whether the outlet works, connect a working device to test it.

  2. 2

Check the Ethernet cable and make sure it is connected properly to the "In" port on the back of the HomePlug and to the "Out" port on your cable modem or router if the "Ethernet" light does not come on. Make sure the cable is not damaged and that the modem or router is working properly before calling customer support.

  3. 3

Inspect to make sure that the outlets you have connected your HomePlug units to are on the same wiring circuit and that there is no electrical meter on the circuit if the HomePlug light is not turning on. The HomePlug system uses your electrical wiring to send data back and forth and will not work if the wiring is damaged or broken.

  4. 4

Connect the power cable from your HomePlug unit straight into a working AC outlet instead of a surge protector if the Internet signal is weak or slow. If the problem continues, move the HomePlug unit away from large electrical appliances such as air conditioners or refrigerators as they could be the source of interference that causes the system not to work properly.
