How to Use an iMac as a Bluetooth Headset

Updated July 20, 2017

Pair your iMac with a Bluetooth headset to stream audio directly to the headphone's speakers. The Bluetooth wireless protocol enables you to connect devices from different manufacturers without using a physical cable connection. Your iMac's operating system includes the necessary software utilities to establish a connection with the headset in just a few clicks of the mouse, so you can begin privately enjoying your favourite songs and podcasts.

Bring the headset within a few feet of the iMac to ensure the connection is established.

Put the Bluetooth headset in "Pairing" or "Discoverable." This usually involves pressing a multi-function button, check with your device's user manual for the specific steps for your individual model.

Click the "Bluetooth" icon on the iMac's menu bar, and click "Turn Bluetooth ON." Click the "Bluetooth ON" entry, and click "Set Up Bluetooth Device." A list of Bluetooth devices appears.

Click the "Bluetooth Headset" icon in the window, and click "Next."
