The BlackBerry is a popular and versatile smartphone that's capable of sending and receiving e-mails, SMS and MMS messages, and BlackBerry Messenger instant messages. BlackBerry users can record other BlackBerry users' device PIN (product ID number) in the Address Book entry for the user. BlackBerry Messenger is able to utilise PINs to transmit instant messages between BlackBerry users. Sometimes, you may want to block PINs for IM contacts for a period of time, such as during a meeting or class, to block messages from other users' devices. Block other users' BlackBerry PINs by setting the firewall on the BlackBerry device to block all PINs.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Press or tap the "Menu" key. The Home screen displays all icons on the BlackBerry.

  2. 2

Scroll to and select the "Options" icon. Tap the icon on a touch screen device, or press the trackball or trackpad on non-touch screen BlackBerrys.

  3. 3

Scroll to and select the "Security Options" link. Tap the entry, or press the trackball or trackpad.

  4. 4

Scroll to and open the "Firewall" option. The Firewall configuration page opens.

  5. 5

Check the check box in front of the "PIN" option.

  6. 6

Press or tap the "Menu" button. Scroll to "Save" and tap, or press the trackball or trackpad. The firewall is configured to disallow communications from other BlackBerry PINs.
