In haste, you may have hit the print button too soon, but there is no need to panic. Sometimes, you may have been sitting patiently and the printer never responded. Instructions

  1. 1

Find the printer icon in the tray in the bottom-right corner of the computer screen after hitting the print button on the File menu. The printer starts to print immediately.

  2. 2

Double-click on the printer icon in the bottom-right corner and a new box appears. Now you have a choice to cancel the printing in three ways. Click the "Printer" button in the new box, scroll down to "Cancel All Documents." Another box appears, "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for the printer?" Yes or No buttons appear. Click on "Yes." Even if the first page prints, the rest of the job should stop printing.

  3. 3

Double-click on the printer icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and a new box appears for a second manner to stop printing. Click the "Document" button in the new box, scroll down to "Cancel." Another box appears, "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for the printer?" Yes or No buttons appear. Click on "Yes." The printer should stop printing with only one page wasted.

  4. 4

Double-click on the printer icon in the computer tray to stop printing in a third way. When the Printer box appears, immediately right-click on the document listed in the queue. Scroll to "Cancel" and click. A box appears, "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for the printer?" When the Yes or No buttons appear, click "Yes." Printing should cease. If you have multiple documents waiting for printing, you can select the ones to cancel or keep.

  5. 5

Return to the file you want to print after printing stops. Correct whatever you saw too late, whether an error in the text or an error in the number of copies, after hitting the print button. Begin the print process anew.

Tips and warnings

  • When within arm's reach of the printer, sometimes you can snatch the paper out of the paper tray to stop the printing of a large file. When near the printer, you can hit the "power" or "cancel" button to stop printing.
  • Save resources. Avoid letting unneeded print jobs finish and then throwing out paper and ink.
