Mini-kegs offer a unique proposition to the at-home beer brewer, providing the freshness and storage capability of a full keg in a more manageable size. Refilling a mini-keg with home brew beer gives beer connoisseurs the ability to deliver fresh, flavourful home-brewed beer to parties and gatherings and serve it from the tap, rather than a bottle. While the process is not easy, refilling a mini-keg is a cost-effective way to store and serve home-brew beer for any occasion.
Combine soap in a 1:10 ratio with water to create a mild soap solution. Fill the mini keg with this soap solution and allow it to rest for five minutes.
Empty the keg of the soap solution. Fill the keg with warm water and swirl the keg. Drain the keg and dry with paper towel. Allow the keg to completely air dry.
Sanitise the keg and bung with a mild solution of sanitiser and water immediately prior to filling the keg.
Add fully-fermented beer to the mini keg, stopping to allow one inch of space at the top of the keg. The beer is ready to be added to the keg once it has fermented for 10-14 days.
Add 1 tbsp of corn sugar to the five litres of beer in the mini-keg to prime the keg.
Coat the rubber bung in a thin layer of Keg Lube. Insert the bung and allow the keg to condition for at least five minutes.
Tap the keg and pour two glasses. Add a CO2 cartridge after drafting the second glass. The beer can remain in the keg for up to a week.
