If you're putting together a ram costume, either for Halloween, a costume party or a school play, you'll need to create a horn headpiece to complete the look. You can make your own ram horns using a paper mache technique, which will save costs over purchasing a headpiece premade from a costume store where similar items can sometimes be expensive. Plus, the paper mache technique uses up old paper and glue and water, materials you may already have on hand.
Tear three sheets of newspaper into thin strips, about 1-inch wide.
Mix a paper mache solution of 1/2 cup glue, 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water.
Dip the strips of paper in the mix and use the dampened paper to sculpt two cone shaped horns. The horns can be as long as you like, and they should be curved like ram's horns. Continue adding dampened paper strips until you've shaped two horns to the size and shape you want.
Lay the horns on a sheet of waxed paper and let dry for about 24 hours.
Paint the horns a pale white colour to look like real horns. Let dry before moving on to next step.
Attach the horns to the top of a headband with a hot glue gun, placing the horns about three inches apart. You can find a thick headband from most beauty supply stores or drugstores.
