How to make a knight costume helmet out of a milk jug

Updated July 20, 2017

Reading about medieval times often sparks a child's imagination and encourages the desire to recreate aspects of the times of knights and ladies. You can construct your own full knight costume that allows a child to stretch his imagination and pretend to be one of the heroes of legend. Using an old milk jug and some paint, create a simple knight's helmet to top off a suit of armour for your young knight.

Wash the inside and outside of the milk jug with soap and water and allow it to dry.

Cut the portion of the jug below the handle and cut off the bottom of the jug using your scissors or craft knife. Cut a flat rectangle from the cut-out portion.

Lay newspaper on a flat surface. Paint both the helmet portion and the flat rectangle with grey paint. Allow them to dry.

Attach the flat rectangle to the top of the cut-out area to create a visor with brass fasteners.
