Corsages are small flower arrangements usually worn for a wedding, formal dance, or other special occasion. Fresh flowers are most often used for corsages for their beauty. It is important that the flowers stay fresh throughout the event and do not wilt. Over-refrigeration and extremely hot weather can cause the flowers in a corsage or any other floral arrangement to wilt prematurely. Consider several steps to keep your corsages from wilting during your event.

  1. 1

Make your fresh flower corsage around a Stay-Fresh corsage stem, if you are making it yourself, or ask the florist if this product is available. A Stay-Fresh corsage stem connects to each flower individually and provides it with a source of water to prevent wilting. To prepare the Stay-Fresh corsage stems, stand them up in a bowl of water mixed with flower food and allow them to sit until the absorbent pad is full. Each of these stems is then inserted into each flower to provide a water source, and then the corsage can be arranged.

  2. 2

Spray the flower corsage with water, wrap it in tissue paper, and place it in a box.

  3. 3

Refrigerate the corsage until it is needed for you event. The corsage should not be refrigerated for more than 24 hours, or it may prematurely wilt.

  4. 4

Remove the corsage from the refrigerator once you are ready to use it or transport it to your event. Spray the corsage with a sealant spray. The sealant spray will help prevent water from evaporating from the flower, which in turn prevents wilting.

Tips and warnings

  • Use sturdy flowers, opposed to fragile ones. Sturdier flowers such as lilies, roses and orchid are excellent for corsages and will stay fresh longer and take more time to wilt.
