If you are dressing up as a captain for a class play or Halloween, make the costume more realistic by wearing a few thematic accessories, such as a captain's hat. Although you can buy one from a costume shop, you can also make your own captain's hat out of basic craft supplies. This will allow you to accessorise the costume without breaking your pocketbook.

Fold a sheet of newspaper in half, width-wise.

Place the folded newspaper in front of you with the folded edge at the top.

Fold the top two corners of the paper toward the middle, 3 inches above the bottom edge. This will make the top, folded edge of the paper meet together to form a triangle. Press the folds to make them flat.

Fold the 3-inch bottom section up, and press the fold. This will be one side of the hat brim.

Turn the hat form over, and fold the other 3-inch bottom section up as before. Press the fold. This will be the other side of the brim.

Paint both sides of the hat using white acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Place an anchor stencil against the hat, and sponge paint blue acrylic paint over the stencil. Remove the stencil to reveal the blue anchor on the captain's hat. Allow the paint to dry completely before wearing the hat.
