Custom fitted baseball caps can be purchased for girls and boys of all ages that actively play sports, or are just interested in a particular team. After time, a hat that is purchased for a child will begin to fit more snugly as his head becomes larger. At one point, the hat will not fit at all. It is possible to resize a custom fitted cap in order to allow any boy or girl the chance to wear her favourite hat for several more years.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- Wig stand
- Measuring tape
Grab the back of the fitted cap firmly with both hands.
Place the hat onto your knee while in a sitting position.
Gently yank on the back of the cap. You will hear some popping noises, but this is the fitted band around the inside of the cap stretching. Avoid continuing to stretch the hat or pulling it with too much force as this could cause damage to the seams.
Place the hat onto your head. If the hat still does not fit comfortably, move onto the next step.
Locate a wig stand that is similar in size to your own head. You can accomplish this by eyeballing the size of the stand or by measuring the circumference of your head with a measuring tape and comparing this with the size of available stands.
Fill a sink with warm water. Place the cap into the sink and allow it to soak for one to two minutes. This will make the materials used to produce the cap more pliable.
Remove the wet cap and place it onto the wig stand. You may need to pull on the edges of the cap slightly in order to get it to fit.
Allow the cap to dry completely on the wig stand. As the cap dries, it will stretch and pull to conform to the larger shape.
Tips and warnings
- Make custom fitted caps smaller by wetting them and placing them onto a wig stand or any object that is smaller than the person's head. You can dry the cap with a hair dryer and shrink it until it fits properly.
