How to Remove W208 Headlights

Updated February 21, 2017

If the headlights on your Mercedes Benz W208, sold under the CLK model names, are broken or cracked, you may want to replace them. Fortunately, the front end of the Mercedes Benz W208 facilitates removing the headlight assembly. Unlike many vehicles, you do not need to remove the grille or the bumper, and no special tools are needed. A broken headlight can impair your ability to see the road when you need it illuminated. Expect the entire job to take you less than an hour.

Prop open the bonnet.

Remove the three top mounting bolts from the headlight assembly with your socket wrench.

Remove the top fender mounting bolts with your socket wrench from inside the engine compartment near the fender on the side that has the headlight you wish to remove.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the headlight.

Pull the headlight toward you as far past the fender as possible. Hold the fender away from the headlight and pull the headlight the rest of the way out. Have a friend hold the fender aside as you pull the headlight, as doing both by yourself is too difficult.
