A BlackBerry device can use any carrier's service that utilises the GSM or Edge networks. Certain data features may not work in GSM or Edge phones, depending on service coverage, but you should always be able to make and receive calls on either network.

Instructions

  1. 1

Press on your BlackBerry "Menu" button, located on the left of the trackball. Scroll down to "Manage Connections" and click on the trackball. Highlight "Mobile Network." If there is a check mark, it is connected. If there is no check mark, click on the trackball. Wait for the BlackBerry to connect to the network.

  2. 2

Check which network to which you are now connected. Press the "Menu" button and scroll to "Manage Connections." Click on the trackball. Scroll down to "Service Status" and click the trackball. Scroll down until you see "Mobile Network." Underneath "Mobile Network" will read "Edge" or "GSM." To switch between "GSM" and "Edge," click the "Menu" button, then click "Mobile Network Options." Under that screen, change you "Connection Preference" by highlighting "GSM" or "Edge."

  3. 3

Contact your service provider if your connection preference does not save. If the connection for "GSM" or "Edge" does not work, there is a possibility of a technical network problem in your area.
